Summer Treat!

We love summer! Treat your horse to something refreshing for them to catch a break from the heat!

Healthy horse popsicles are very adaptable depending upon your horses dietary needs and the recipe can made a couple of different ways for horses that like to play with their food.

Basically you’ll be freezing your horses favorite foods into a bucket of water to create a giant frozen treat. You can also blend all your ingredients up and freeze into a smoothie treat.

Layered treats can be made in any freezer safe container. You can use medium sized containers that hold about 40 fl oz. Ice cream buckets work great too.

Pick out a combo of fruits and veggies that your horses love (pears, carrots, and strawberries are some of the favorites around here). Chop them up into large slices.

Then put a layer of fruit/veggies in the bottom of the freezer container. Next add a layer of ice. Repeat the layering ice/fruit till the whole container if filled. Using layers with ice prevents the fruits from all floating up to get frozen on one end, it also makes it freeze faster.

After all your layering is done fill the bucket with water to the top. Put the lid on and freeze till it’s solid.

Keep the frozen treat in the container till you’re ready to give it to the horses then flip it out and have fun watching them figure it out!
